What Is Aging In Place?

Aging in place means that you or your loved one can live in a place that feels like home for as long as possible. Aging in place is about autonomy and quality of life. It can promote satisfaction, preserve dignity, and support self-esteem—which helps us all remain happy and healthy as we age. Here are just three ways that aging in place can support aging adults.

1 Maintain Independence

The longer we remain independent, the longer we live. Staying in your home increases your likelihood of retaining independence because of established routines and familiarity. Using tools to support you, such as a medical alert device for extra protection and confidence or adding grab bars to your shower, can help keep you in your home longer.

2 Familiar Setting And Routines

Our home can be one of the most important places because it holds emotional value. Staying in a cherished home can also add to self-esteem. Aging in place tends to improve seniors’ quality of life, which can also improve physical health.

3 Safer Environment

Your home is a contained environment. You can install safety items, such as an in-home medical alert to make a call in an emergency, or “fall-proof” the home to ensure it’s a safe place.

Frequently asked questions

Unlike a cell phone, our medical alert devices are highly water-resistant wearable buttons, perfect for shower use. Additionally, a cell phone will not always be nearby in an emergency, making it an unreliable option when it comes to ensuring your safety. With our devices, however, you can rest assured that you will always have access to help by wearing a discreet and lightweight button around your neck, wrist, or on a clip. Our medical alert devices can also be used for more than just emergency situations including contacting a family member or loved one at the push of a button. The ease of use of our products with a single button press truly set our devices apart from your typical cell phone, especially in the case of an emergency.
Our services are available in all 50 states. We also provide services in Puerto Rico and Canada, but device restrictions may apply.
Standard Medicare does not cover the cost of a medical alert device. However, some Medicare Advantage plans (Medicare part C), may cover or reimburse you for the costs associated with a device. You would need to check with your specific Medicare Advantage provider to see if they would cover one of our devices. Medicaid may cover the cost of a medical alert device, depending on your plan and your state. Check with your Medicaid provider to see if they would cover one of our devices.
No. While our Classic Guardian requires a landline telephone connection, we offer another home-based medical alert device, Home 2.0, and two mobile products, Mobile 2.0 and Mini Guardian, that use a nationwide cellular network to contact our 24/7 monitoring center at no extra cost to you.
Our monitoring center is located right here in the United States, so you never have to worry about experiencing any language barriers in an emergency.
