At Medical Guardian, your safety and peace of mind are our top priorities. That’s why we encourage regular testing of your medical alert device. By taking a few simple steps to confirm your device is functioning properly, you can feel confident knowing it’s ready to respond when it matters most. Testing also helps familiarize you with your device, so you’ll be more comfortable using it in any situation.
Why Testing Matters
Testing your device before you need it can save valuable time in an emergency. Here’s how it makes a difference:
-
Confirm Everything Is Working: Testing ensures your microphone, speaker, and connection to the monitoring center are all functioning as they should.
-
Reduce Stress During a False Alarm: If you ever accidentally press your help button, testing ahead of time makes the process less intimidating. You’ll know exactly what to expect and have time to cancel if it’s not an emergency.
-
Speed Up Emergency Responses: Testing helps our emergency monitors identify any issues early, so there are no delays in getting you the help you need.
Testing is quick, easy, and gives you peace of mind knowing your device is ready to perform when you need it most.
How to Test Your Device
Follow these steps to test your Medical Guardian device. For additional details, check out our Support Page for your specific device.
Press the button on your device or pendant as you would in an emergency. This will connect you to a Monitoring Center agent.
When you press your button, AI is used to assist with initial call routing to help determine the nature of the call—whether it’s a test or a true emergency—and ensure each situation is handled as quickly and appropriately as possible.
In the situation of testing, when the AI agent picks up, simply let them know, “This is a test.” The AI agent will walk you through the process and confirm that your microphone and speaker are working properly. We use AI in these situations to ensure testing / false alarms do not tie up emergency resources.
If you were to tell the AI agent you need help, or if there is any ambiguity in your response, your call will always immediately be escalated and prioritized for connection with a live emergency operator.
Additionally, if you do not respond at all, that also triggers an immediate connection with an operator to ensure your safety!
Overall, AI is just used in this case to streamline the process and keep the phone lines open for true emergencies. That way, you can be comfortable testing your device frequently!
We recommend testing your device once a month. Adding it to your calendar can make it easier to remember!
Testing Tips for a Smooth Experience
-
Choose a Quiet Location: Testing in a quiet space ensures the agent can clearly hear you through the microphone.
-
Wear the Device as Intended: Whether it’s a pendant or wristband, testing it in its usual position helps you understand how it works in an emergency.
-
Check the Battery: If your device is rechargeable, make sure it’s fully charged before testing.
